What a Category 3 independent check actually checks

A Category 3 check is an independent review of a structural design by an engineer with no involvement in producing it. It is not a re-design, and it is not a rubber stamp either. We review the design basis, loading assumptions, load paths and key calculations, and report factually on anything that does not stack up. For funders and purchasers this is increasingly a standard piece of due diligence, and for contractors it is a useful insurance policy before steel gets ordered.
